About this game

Brudal Baddle: The Quest for Talis Ra is a fighting game that attempts to emulate the style and success of Mortal Kombat but ultimately falls short due to its poor execution and lack of polish. The game features digitized actors as fighters and pre-rendered backgrounds, but the overall quality is subpar, resulting in a cheap and silly experience rather than a compelling fighting game. Gameplay and Mechanics: Combat System: The games combat system is its most significant weakness. The action feels bland and erratic, with awkward animations and dubious collision detection. The controls are unresponsive, making it difficult to execute moves effectively. AI Opponents: The AI in Brudal Baddle is incredibly weak and poses little to no challenge. Once players figure out the AIs limitations, they can easily defeat opponents by using simple strategies, such as ducking and punching repeatedly. Special Attacks: All characters in the game seem to have similar special attacks. For example, the three available characters in the shareware version all use the same fireball attack, which is rendered useless when the opponent is ducking. This lack of variety further diminishes the gameplay experience. Story and Setting: Time Travel Plot: The game employs a clichéd time travel plot to bring together fighters from different epochs. However, the execution is poor, and the story fails to engage the player. The concept of time travel is not effectively utilized, and the narrative falls flat. Characters: The characters are blurry sprites that lack any distinct personality or appeal. The digitized actors used for the fighters are of low quality, contributing to the games overall lack of polish. Backgrounds: The pre-rendered backgrounds are eerie and bizarre, failing to convey a sense of different times and places. Instead of enhancing the atmosphere, the backgrounds feel out of place and detract from the games immersion. Shareware Version: Available Characters: The unregistered shareware version includes three playable characters. These characters are largely indistinguishable from one another, with similar moves and special attacks. Full Version: The full version of the game offers five additional characters plus a final boss. While this increases the roster size, the fundamental issues with the combat system and AI remain unresolved.
