It became one of the most popular and influential beat em up games of its time, and its success led to numerous ports and adaptations across a variety of platforms, including DOS, consoles, and arcade machines. The DOS version of Double Dragon was released in 1989 and brought the fast-paced, side-scrolling action of the arcade game to personal computers. The story begins with Marian, the girlfriend of Billy Lee, being kidnapped by a criminal gang known as the Black Warriors. The brothers, who are skilled martial artists, must battle through the gangs members to rescue her. As they progress, the brothers face increasingly difficult foes and tougher enemies, leading up to a climactic showdown with the gang’s leader, Willie. The game emphasizes the bond between the two brothers, allowing you to control either Billy or Jimmy (in some versions, both players can play simultaneously in a cooperative mode).
