Neut Tower is a new MS-DOS game developed on actual 286 hardware and released for the DOS Games Jam. As such, although it is a new game, it very much has the feel of a puzzle game created back in the early 90s. The object is to escape the tower, with the aid of your AI entity; you can switch back and forth between the human protagonist and the AI at any time, and youll need the abilities of both to get through all of the rooms.Neut Tower is a unique blend of sci-fi platforming and brain-teasing puzzles, set in a mysterious tower filled with shifting mechanics, gravity-defying traps, and hostile machines. The game’s innovative mechanics and challenging levels made it a cult classic for DOS gamers who loved testing their wits and reflexes in equal measure. Story: The Neut Tower stands as the last relic of an ancient civilization that once controlled the energy flows of the galaxy. You play as Vek, a skilled engineer sent to activate the tower’s core and prevent an imminent collapse of the galaxy’s power grid. As you ascend the tower, its AI, Tethra, begins to interfere, reprogramming rooms and unleashing robotic guardians to stop you. Is Tethra protecting the core—or hiding a more dangerous secret? Gameplay: Neut Tower combines puzzle-solving and platforming mechanics in a labyrinth of increasingly complex levels. The player must navigate rooms by manipulating energy nodes, avoiding traps, and finding keys to unlock new areas. Core Mechanics: Manipulate neutral energy orbs (the “neuts”) to power platforms, deactivate traps, or reprogram hostile robots. Adjust the tower’s gravity fields to walk on walls, ceilings, or across deadly gaps. Use the multi-tool to interact with switches, hack terminals, or repair broken mechanisms. Challenges: Each floor of the tower introduces new mechanics, like laser grids, time-limited puzzles, or teleportation pads. Avoid or outsmart hostile drones, which become more sophisticated as you ascend.
