About this game

A good looking version of the classic MineSweeper game. (Big surprise, eh?) Nice VGA graphics, however, you cant customize the game at all, and the sound effects are played through the PC Speaker. (They can be turned off.) Overall, a good alternative to the Windows version. Also, the author lives/lived in my old home town, Mississauga, in Ontario, Canada!Minesweeper 1996 is the classic DOS version of the popular puzzle game Minesweeper, which became a staple of casual gaming on Windows and DOS systems in the 1990s. It follows the same basic concept as the other versions of Minesweeper, but with a retro look and feel that was typical of the era. In Minesweeper 1996, players are tasked with uncovering a grid of squares while avoiding hidden mines. Each revealed square gives clues as to how many mines are adjacent to it, and players must use logic to deduce where the mines are located without triggering any of them.Grid Setup: The grid is usually square-shaped, typically consisting of 9x9, 16x16, or larger grids depending on the selected difficulty. The number of mines is proportionate to the grid size, with a higher number of mines in larger grids. Cell Interaction: Left-click on a cell to uncover it. If the cell is empty, it may trigger an automatic revealing of adjacent cells with no mines. Numbers indicate how many mines are in adjacent cells (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). If you reveal a mine, the game ends and you lose. Flagging Mines: Right-click (or the equivalent DOS key combination) to place flags on cells you suspect contain mines. Flagging is a strategic feature, as it helps keep track of possible mine locations. Winning the Game: To win, you must reveal all cells that do not contain mines without triggering any mines. The game will automatically end with a victory once all non-mine cells are uncovered. Losing the Game: If you reveal a mine, the game ends, and you lose. The mine locations are then shown on the grid, and the game will display a "game over" message.
