Lock N Chase

About this game

As you might expect from the name, this is a clone of the Atari 2600 game Lock N Chase. (I recall playing it on the Intellivision personally.) Its a faithful rendition of the Atari 2600 game, with almost identical graphics and gameplay. It plays similar to Pac-Man, where the goal is to collect all the gold bars in the maze and avoid enemies. Rather than power pills, you can put up temporary barriers to block the enemies. (This is perhaps the smallest game on the site, only 4kb compiled!)The game follows the protagonist, Chase, who is on a mission to collect coins hidden throughout a maze. However, the maze is filled with guards who will chase him down and stop him from collecting all of the coins. To outwit them, Chase must use his ability to unlock gates that block paths, adding a layer of strategy to the gameplay. The objective is to collect all the coins while avoiding the guards and unlocking gates to escape from their pursuit. Gameplay Mechanics Player Control: The player controls Chase, who moves around the maze and collects coins. The movement is directional, using either the arrow keys or joystick for left, right, up, and down navigation. Coins: The maze contains a series of coins scattered throughout. Chases goal is to collect all of these coins to complete the level. Each coin adds to the score, and the player must clear the maze of all coins before moving on to the next level. Enemies (Guards): The maze is patrolled by guards who move in a pattern and chase Chase when they see him. If they catch him, the player loses a life. The guards follow a set route, but their behavior becomes more aggressive as the game progresses. Locks and Keys: The maze has locked gates that block certain areas. To open these gates, the player must find and use keys scattered in the maze. The addition of locks and keys requires the player to plan their route carefully and strategically unlock paths while avoiding the guards. Speed Boost: The player can pick up speed boosts that allow Chase to temporarily move faster, making it easier to evade the guards and complete the level. Power-Ups: Some versions of the game include power-ups that allow Chase to temporarily turn the tables on the guards, such as items that freeze or eliminate enemies for a brief period.
