Electranoid
About this game
Another Breakout/Arkanoid clone, this time from the under-appreciated game design group Pixel Painters. This one looks pretty good, and has a lot of fancy animations, sounds/music, etc. Unfortunately its not possible to skip the animations that occur during the game which can be annoying; but other than that minor quibble, the game plays quite well and includes most of the Arkanoid conventions like powerups, enemies, etc.Electranoid (DOS) is a classic arcade-style game released in the early 1990s. It combines the gameplay mechanics of Breakout and Arkanoid, where players control a paddle to bounce a ball that breaks blocks on the screen. The game’s primary objective is to clear levels by breaking all the blocks, with each level featuring different patterns and obstacles. The game is known for its fast-paced action and the challenge of managing multiple balls and power-ups. Classic Breakout Gameplay: Electranoid follows the familiar Breakout-style gameplay, where players control a paddle at the bottom of the screen to bounce a ball that breaks blocks arranged at the top. The game typically includes multiple levels, each with its own layout of blocks to destroy. Power-ups: Throughout the game, power-ups and bonuses appear, which can enhance the players abilities or make the game more challenging. These power-ups can include: Multi-ball: Spawns multiple balls for added difficulty. Paddle size increase: Enlarges the paddle to help catch and bounce the ball more easily. Laser: Allows the player to shoot lasers to destroy blocks directly. Speed modifiers: Change the speed of the ball, either making it faster or slower. Levels and Obstacles: Each level in Electranoid presents a different pattern of blocks that need to be broken. Some levels may have obstacles or special blocks that change the gameplay dynamics. The game often includes moving blocks, indestructible blocks, or blocks that regenerate after being destroyed, adding to the complexity. Difficulty and Progression: As players progress through levels, the game increases in difficulty. Blocks may become harder to break, balls may move faster, or new obstacles may be introduced. The challenge comes from managing the bouncing ball while navigating these obstacles and power-ups.
