Dismal Passages: Part I - The Wicked Curse
About this game
A point and click adventure game, in the style of early Sierra point and click adventures. I didnt find this one very enjoyable, however, dispite its nice graphics. Most of the game seems to take place in a forest maze, where you sometimes run into monsters, that are fought in uninteresting battle scenes. It has an unprofessional feel to it.Dismal Passages: Part I - The Wicked Curse is a DOS-based adventure game released in the 1990s. It is the first part of the Dismal Passages series, a set of interactive fiction and puzzle-solving games with a dark fantasy setting. The game features a story-driven experience, blending elements of exploration, storytelling, and puzzle-solving within a gothic, cursed world. Gothic, Dark Fantasy World: The game’s environment is set in a gothic and mysterious world, filled with eerie landscapes, haunted locations, and ominous atmospheres. Players explore castles, dungeons, and cursed villages, interacting with environments steeped in folklore and arcane knowledge. Storytelling and Narrative: The primary focus of the game is its narrative, which follows the protagonist’s quest to uncover the Wicked Curse and its origins. Players will encounter dialogue choices, story branches, and interactions with NPCs that affect the direction of the plot. Puzzles and Challenges: The game includes various puzzles that require logical thinking, pattern recognition, and often, the collection and use of items found in the environment. Solving puzzles might involve searching for clues, using magical objects, or interacting with mystical artifacts tied to the curse. Interactive Elements: Players must often talk to NPCs, who can provide important hints and lore about the world. Some characters are helpful, while others may try to deceive or mislead the player. Interaction with the environment, such as searching for hidden items or unlocking secret paths, is key to progressing through the game. Multiple Endings: Like many adventure games of its time, Dismal Passages: Part I offers a degree of non-linearity, where the choices made by the player can influence the outcome of the game. The player’s decisions and actions could lead to multiple endings, encouraging replayability as players explore different story paths.
