Dark Phear
About this game
DarkPhear is a console-style RPG with decent graphics and sound effects (especially considering it was programmed in QuickBasic!). The game begins with a simple quest on behalf of the king but the story continues to evolve as the game progresses. The style of the game is similar to the Phantasy Star series of games, and battles take place using a 1st person perspective, turn-based system. Overall a well made game but only one that fans of old-school console RPGs will appreciate.Dark Phear is a DOS-based game released in 1995 that falls under the survival horror genre. It is a relatively obscure game that utilizes a first-person perspective and a 3D environment to create a chilling atmosphere. First-Person Perspective: The game is played from a first-person viewpoint, where players can move around a haunted setting and interact with the environment. The viewpoint adds to the immersion, as players are in the thick of the action and the tension. Exploration: Players explore a dark, labyrinthine environment where the focus is on discovering items, solving puzzles, and navigating through eerie areas. The environment is designed to evoke feelings of fear and suspense. Combat: Much like other shooters from the 90s, Dark Phear includes combat elements, where players face off against terrifying enemies. The game has guns or other weapons that the player can use to defend themselves against monsters or other threats. Horror Elements: The game is heavy on psychological horror, with unsettling visual and auditory cues. Sounds like creepy whispers, distant screams, and unnatural noises fill the air, heightening the eerie atmosphere. The environment is dark and claustrophobic, with limited lighting that makes it difficult to see enemies or objects clearly, adding to the challenge of survival. Story and Setting: The plot of Dark Phear often involves the player uncovering a mystery or a series of sinister events in a dark, haunted world. The setting can range from dilapidated mansions, ruined buildings, or other creepy, isolated locations filled with traps, puzzles, and creepy foes.
