Bricks1984
About this game
Bricks is a simple Breakout clone which uses the tweaked CGA mode (really text mode) which allowed the game to show more than the usual 4 colors youd see on a CGA game. In any case, the game itself is fairly unremarkable, although very early (1984).Bricks 1984 is a classic DOS game that belongs to the Breakout-style genre, which is one of the most famous arcade game genres that became popular in the 1980s. These types of games were initially inspired by Ataris "Pong" and "Breakout", where the main objective is to control a paddle and bounce a ball to destroy blocks or bricks arranged at the top of the screen. Gameplay Mechanics: Paddle Control: The player controls a paddle at the bottom of the screen. This paddle can move horizontally, and the player must use it to bounce the ball into the blocks (bricks) at the top of the screen. The key to success is timing the ball’s bounce so that it hits the bricks and destroys them. Ball Movement: The ball automatically bounces off the walls and the paddle. When the ball hits the paddle, it changes direction and aims toward the blocks. The player must make sure the ball doesnt fall past the paddle. If the ball goes off the screen, you lose a life. Objective: The main goal is to destroy all the blocks on each level. As you destroy blocks, the ball progresses to higher levels, which may feature more complex block arrangements and additional challenges. Levels: Bricks 1984 features multiple levels, and as you advance through them, the arrangement of bricks changes, increasing the difficulty. Later levels may include special bricks that offer different effects (e.g., power-ups, multi-ball, etc.). Power-ups: Like many games in the Breakout genre, Bricks 1984 likely has power-ups that can drop from certain blocks when destroyed. These power-ups could include: Wider paddle to make it easier to catch the ball. Multi-ball (splitting the ball into multiple smaller balls). Increased ball speed or laser-like power-ups to destroy bricks faster. Scoring: Players earn points for every brick destroyed. More challenging or special bricks might give higher points. You may also earn extra lives by reaching certain score thresholds.
