Big Spider Solitaire
About this game
Big Spider Solitaire is a web-based version of the popular Spider Solitaire card game, but with an emphasis on larger, easier-to-read cards and a simplified user interface. It’s an engaging, single-player card game where the player’s goal is to organize and clear all cards from the tableau by arranging them into complete sequences. Gameplay Mechanics: Card Deck: Big Spider Solitaire is usually played with two standard decks of cards, resulting in 104 cards in total. The cards are shuffled and laid out in 10 tableau piles, with the top card in each pile visible and the remaining cards face down. The Tableau: The tableau consists of 10 piles of cards. Eight piles contain 10 cards each, while two piles contain 11 cards. Players can move cards between the tableau piles. However, only King cards can be placed in empty tableau spaces (unlike other versions where any card can go into an empty space). Building Sequences: To build a sequence, you must place cards in descending order within each tableau pile. For example, a King can go on a Queen, a Queen on a Jack, and so on down to Ace. The cards need to be of the same suit (a crucial rule of Spider Solitaire). In the standard version, there are 4 suits (spades, hearts, clubs, and diamonds). However, in Big Spider Solitaire, the focus is often on one suit or multiple suits depending on the game variant. Moving Cards: Cards can be moved individually or in sequences (if the sequence is in descending order and of the same suit). Players can move any top card or group of cards from one tableau pile to another as long as the sequence is correctly ordered. If there is no valid move available in the tableau, players can deal new cards from the stockpile. Stock Piles: At the start of the game, there are no cards in the stockpile, but as the player moves cards around, they can draw from the stock (a pile of face-down cards) to get additional cards. Typically, one card is drawn at a time from the stockpile and placed at the end of each tableau column. If all cards are used, and no moves are left, the player must restart with a new shuffled deal. Goal: The goal is to create complete sequences from King to Ace in the tableau piles. When a sequence is created, it is automatically removed from the tableau. The game ends when all cards have been removed from the tableau, i.e., when all cards are arranged in complete descending sequences. Scoring: Players may be awarded points based on how quickly they clear all the cards. Some versions of Big Spider Solitaire also have time limits or scoring systems based on the number of moves made. Bonus points may be awarded for completing the game without undoing moves or using hints. Controls: Mouse: The game is controlled entirely with the mouse. Players click on cards to move them between tableau piles or to the stockpile. In some versions, players can drag and drop cards for more fluid interaction. Touchscreen: For mobile versions, players can tap and drag cards to move them across the screen.
